Speeches

Suit from Windsor Formal HireUsually the bride’s father begins the speeches, firstly proposing a toast to the bride and groom and then continuing on to his speech. He then hands over to the groom who will respond on behalf of himself and his new wife. The groom will thank everyone for their help; gifts are usually given to the best man, ushers and bridesmaids, with flowers given to both mothers. The groom then proposes a toast to the bridesmaids. The best man then takes over, responds on behalf of the bridesmaids, reads cards and telegrams and then delivers his own speech.

On occasions, the bride and chief bridesmaid may also speak; these speeches can be given after the groom’s and best man’s.

It is traditional for speeches to be given after a meal, but if it is preferred, they can be given before the meal so everyone can get on with enjoying the wedding breakfast with nerves gone.
